TESTIMONIALS

"For all who are interested in both arts management as well as poetry, Poetry Festival Singapore (PFS) is a great experience to learn more about the Singaporean literary sector, and also what it takes to run an event successfully. To successfully run a festival tests your mettle — and PFS is one of the best avenues to learn resourcefulness, as well as to develop a skillset that is necessary for an arts manager’s practice. The festival’s committee members are very pleasant to work with, and have taken in feedback and suggestions readily when appropriate. Additionally, programmes are also executed with thought and care, bolstering the festival’s mission to offer a multilingual, multicultural, and multi-generational platform for poets in Singapore. Overall, working with PFS has been an extremely rewarding experience that I would recommend anyone who that is keen in arts management to partake in."

"During my summer break, I took on an internship with Poetry Festival Singapore (PFS). Being from an arts management course, and having prior interest in the local literature scene, it was an interesting experience to bring a festival to the screens of many, and to put what I've been taught in class into practice. From troubleshooting problems and liaising with artists, to social media management and graphic design, I've learned more being hands-on here and on the ground - giving me better insight into events management and the local literature sector."

"Working with Poetry Festival Singapore has certainly served to be a unique experience within the arts industry for me, considering that it is my first time being actively involved in the literature sector of the arts.  I am thankful for the experience - especially since now I can say with confidence that my character traits and work efficiency shine more when given wider independence, and it has helped me build a foundation of my approach towards the art manager role and career.  Not only have I been taught a lot about the job, but about myself, too. Now, I am encouraged to go beyond the best of my abilities and be able to shine through in my endeavours."

"During my final year in university, I had the privilege of interning with Poetry Festival Singapore (PFS). My main role was to assist in the social media publicity for PFS. It was an amazing experience as I was given the freedom to exercise my creativity and produce designs for social media platforms. Moreover, I had the opportunity to journey alongside the team in the production of the book – ‘Love and Life at the Gallery’. The team, especially my supervisor Sharon, was very accommodating towards my academic schedule. It was rewarding and a pleasure to work with such passionate individuals."

"Last year in April 2019, I made the decision to reach out to Poetry Festival Singapore (PFS) for a volunteering opportunity, and it has been one of the best decisions I have made. Through volunteering, I have developed a deep sense of respect and admiration for the organisers of the festival. Working behind the scenes, particularly in designing publicity material for PFS events, has widened my horizons tremendously. This experience has also helped me to become a more confident person when communicating with others. I realise how much PFS depends on the effort and dedication of its volunteers to sustain the running of its numerous exciting activities. I’d highly recommend anyone to volunteer for PFS if you’re looking for a wholesome and enriching way to support the arts scene in Singapore!"

"Working with PFS gave me a behind-the-scenes look at arts management in Singapore, along with valuable experience seeing arts events through to completion. I got the chance to meet various local and international artists and work with them to share the joys of poetry with the community. Working in a small team also meant taking on myriad roles at the same time, which was challenging but also pushed me beyond my comfort zone and allowed me to pick up a variety of new skills."

"As a project assistant for Singapore Literature Conference 2019, I was given the opportunity to work on numerous aspects of art management, from liaising with conference speakers and running social media campaigns to working with National Library Board staff on event logistics and designing the programme booklet. I received a very hands-on, well-rounded training in arts management, and enjoyed learning how to organize literary events for the public."
